Sunday night found us at church for the annual Chili Cook Off. Sam and Jim were in charge of serving, marketing and getting votes for our famous Southern Style Bean Chili developed in the Meyers’ test kitchen. You know it’s going to be a fun night when one of the competitors wears a Cat in the Hat…Hat!

And where was Blondie while Sam and the Hunk were so busy working?
April was busy eating hot dogs. Can you tell by her smile that there is a large piece of a hot dog, bun and ketchup in her mouth?
Meanwhile Jake was busy eating his way through 20 different types of chili. Yummy chili like, Brooklyn White Chicken Chili and Metal Fury.
Sam took a short break and then it was back to serve more chili and drum up votes. You voted for your favorite chili by putting quarters in a small cup in front of each chili pot.
April voted for us but she also voted for our competition………………………..! What is wrong with that girl? Meanwhile Sam got people to vote for us by various means including dancing.
When it was time to count the money Sam came around the table to watch the process.
April and I may or may not have done a drum roll on the table before the winners were announced. I really think a drum roll builds excitement in a room.
Yes, we took home 2nd Place. Sam did the Ray Lewis dance, which he has down perfectly. I was unable to take pictures because I was too busy jumping up and down and perhaps screaming a tiny bit. What a fun way to raise $200 for the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
I have the ribbon proudly displayed in a prominent place in our home until I can get it framed. I placed it on the fridge of course.

Congrats!! Reading this is making me hungry for some of that Southern Pinto Bean Chili of yours!

I use a brand of beans called ‘Glory’ and the style is Seasoned Southern Style. In addition the recipe calls for cumin:)
