I have always been interested in April’s perception of herself as a person. This morning my mom and I were laughing about when April was 8 years old and someone asked her, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Most children her age would have already outgrown the “fantasy careers” of preschool – not April. She replied, “the Easter Bunny.” Mortified my mother wondered if all of her hard work, not to mention years of April’s intervention and education, had been a waste?
Today she drove April, now 20 years old, to her job at a large amusement park in our area. It’s a real job with a paycheck. But, she doesn’t wear a costume… she works in human resources. Too bad she couldn’t have been a “character.” It would’ve been a dream come true!
