Inclusion after the school day is over.

Inclusion doesn’t just happen during school hours.  The really fun stuff happens after school.  At our high school there are many, many clubs to choose from.  Yesterday was the first day of Art Club and Jake was there.Jake and friends showing off joint poster that they made.

Art Club was supposed to be over at 3:30 p.m. so at 3:45 I decided to go into the building and track down Jake.  I found him in the art room talking with students and helping clean up.  I told him that I was parked out front and to just come out when he was finished.  I didn’t want to hang around like a hover mother.  It was obvious that the other students accepted him as their peer by the way they were talking to him.  The best words I heard today were, “See you next week Jake”, from one of the club members.   Now he has another set of friends and I love it!  Be sure to check out after school inclusion at your schools.  Jake’s contribution to the poster.
