I love the clever banner developed for World Down Syndrome Day. Look closely. Do you see the ’21’ in the heart? That is a play on the fact that Down syndrome is caused by an extra chromosome on the 21st pair. But people with DS are much more than an extra chromosome. As a parent we want the same thing for all of our children. I hope that all 6 of our children live independent, happy lives, have loving relationships, are active in their communities and are employed. Having the extra chromosome shouldn’t be a factor in achieving those things.
Here are the 3 reasons I care about World Down Syndrome Day.Sam, Robin Hood(he’s from England, hence the nickname) and Jake at camp.
April is now actively looking for a job. Here is a great video of people with DS from all over the world working...Will You Let Us In? Today, and every day, see the possibilities in people with Down syndrome.
